Atrium Health Care
Touches Lives

In November 2011, R. Earline Parker was flown into Parks Airport in Cahokia, Illinois from Gainesville, Florida after her hospitalization from a car accident.    Her sister & Power Of Attorney, Georgia Palmer, from Dupo made the arrangements for the flight after taking a tour at Atrium Health Care in Cahokia.  Georgia stated, “I just knew this is where I wanted my sister to be for her Nursing care.”

 R. Earline Parker was living by herself in Lake City, Florida and publishing books.  She had volunteered with United Way companyand soon was promoted to the Executive Director.  She worked in Ocala, Florida for some time and then transferred to Bradenton, Florida where she was asked to supervise their program.  After retiring from United Way, she moved back to Lake City, Florida where she spent time publishing books, which she really enjoyed.   She was returning home one day from a business meeting and was involved in a horrible car accident.  She was hospitalized in Florida and underwent 8 operations.

She came to Atrium Health Care on November 3, 2011. She suffered from brain trauma and was treated for a massive wound in her leg.  Atrium Health Care has a wound specialist Nurse that healed her wound in 2 months.  She was participating in Physical, Occupational, & Speech Therapy on a daily basis.

During all of her stay at Atrium Health Care, she was a very pleasant patient and was loved by all the staff.  She really enjoyed her family visits.   R. Earline Parker passed away on February 14, 2012 at Atrium Health Care, related to the brain trauma.  She was a Heartland Hospice patient at the time.

Her sister & Power of Attorney, Georgia Palmer stated, “The staff was always happy to be working at Atrium.  The place is always clean.  I built so many relationships with the staff.  They guided me and always gave me good advice about my sister.  The Therapy department was great and they always had comments about my sister’s therapy that day.  I never asked for something that I didn’t get.   It was a pleasant experience for such a terrible thing that had happened.”

From all the staff at Atrium Health Care, our sincere condolences go out to the family & friends of R. Earline Parker.

Atrium Health Care accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and some Managed Care Insurances.  We have a “Destination Home” program designed to get our residents’ back home where they want to be.  Please stop by for a tour of Atrium Health Care in Cahokia or call Susie Wilson, Community Relations Director at (618) 337-9400.
