The Cahokia Comanche Varsity Football team came into Saturday's contest with the Joliet Catholic Academy Hilltoppers with high hopes for continuing their season into the IHSA Class 5A quarterfinals. Led by Division 1 College recruits Jimmie Hunt and Patrick Ivy, Cahokia certainly seemed to have the talent to compete but it was not to be as the Hilltoppers ran away with the 35-12 victory over the Comanches.

At the start of the 2009 prep football season, Cahokia Comanches Varsity Football Coach Antwyne Golliday set two goals for his team. First, make it to the playoffs and second win the South Seven Conference Championship. Having completed both of those goals the Comanches have a new goal in mind.

Watching a Cahokia Comanche football game can be an exciting experience because you never know when the Comanche offense is going to light it up. It can be all game long as it was against Alton and Lutheran North or it can be fourth quarter fireworks as it was against O’Fallon and again last night against Marion.

The Cahokia Comanche’s Varsity Football squad won their season opener Friday night by a score of 8-3. In an unexpectedly low scoring affair, the O’Fallon Panthers took the lead at the end of the first half on a 28 yard field goal by kicker Kurt Rosenbaum as time expired.

The Cahokia Comanche’s Varsity football team aired it out Friday night as they cruised to a 42-0 victory over the Alton Redbirds. The Cahokia defense held up and the offense sputtered early but then warmed up quickly to run away with the victory.
