St James Catholic Church Hosts Annual Harvest Time Event

October 3, 2009

The St James Catholic Church of Millstadt held their annual ‘Schlachtfest’ Saturday, October 3rd.  Although the weather was cool people came out to enjoy the harvest time event.  The afternoon and evening were filled with food, games, and raffles.  There was something for everyone regardless of how young or old you may be.  Perhaps the best part of the event was the socializing and fellowship among parishioners and their guests.

It was a party at Reinhardt’s Restaurant & Bar Saturday, October 3rd as they celebrated 20 years of business at their 201 W Madison St location.  The crowd was casual and the mood festive as they gathered for a day of food, fun and music.

Millstadt Optimist Club BBQ-Chili Cook-Off

9th Annual Cook-off a Huge Success

October 11, 2009

The 9th annual BBQ/Chili Cook-off sponsored by the Millstadt Optimist Club was a huge success with an estimated of 3500 to 4000 in attendance. There seemed to be just as many people in Liederkranz Park for this cook-off as there was for the homecoming. And why not?  There was some great food to be had and the weather was absolutely perfect for this time of the year.

Concordia UCC Annual Dinner Auction

5th Annual Dinner Auction hosted at Quail Club

October 17, 2009

The Concordia United Church of Christ held their fifth annual Dinner Auction on Saturday, October 17th at the Quail Club on Concordia Church Road.  The event was well attended as people from the surrounding area gathered for an evening of food, fun and fellowship.  This year’s theme was the “Nifty Fifties” and the decorations and music reflected it.

The library ended it’s October Pre-School Reading Program. This morning for some 30 pre-school children at the Millstadt Library enjoyed being read to them from different books and then went trick-or-treating next door to the Village office.

23rd Annual FR. Freund Dinner Auction Held

Patrons Enjoy ‘Tailgate’ Atmosphere!

Members and friends of St James Parish in Millstadt gathered Saturday evening for the 23rd Annual Fr. Freund Dinner Auction in the St James Parish Center.  ‘College Tailgate’ was the theme for this year’s event and the decorations reflected the football season.  Many of those attending donned their favorite college or professional football team jerseys at the event.

Millstadt Primary Center Host Veteran’s Assembly

School Honors the Veterans with a Special Assembly

November 10, 2009

The Millstadt Primary Center hosted an assembly on Tuesday, November 10th in honor of the Veteran’s who served this country. The Millstadt VFW Post 7980 presented the colors as well as being introduced, stated the war that they served in. Principal Kevin Juhas directed the assembly to all the students and staff. He explained to the kids about the various military emblems that represent the different branches of the service, and showed the different flags of the U.S.

Millstadt Police Hold Self-Defense Class

36 Local Girls & Women Attend the Free Seminar

November 17, 2009

While many men were home watching Monday Night Football, a group of local women were learning self-defense techniques that could one day save their life.  The Millstadt Village Police Department sponsored the event held in the multi-purpose room at Millstadt Consolidated School.  While the police were hoping for at least 5-10 ladies, 36 turned out ranging in age from girls in their early teens to senior citizens.

The IGA stores slogan ‘Hometown Proud’ is more than just a saying to Millstadt IGA owner Thomas Norrenberns (aka TJ).  It’s a philosophy and a way of doing business that TJ tries to incorporate into his stores. The stores location at 625 East Washington in Millstadt, was the former location of the Millstadt Supermart. Opening in January of 2007 they will be celebrating three years of doing business at that location in 2010.

Every once in a while a story comes along that just has to be told, and this is one of those stories. I was invited by the founders and staff of Inspiranza Designs here in Millstadt to meet a rather interesting man, with an unusual ministry of collecting shoes. My curiosity was aroused, so I accepted the invitation, and I am so glad I did.
